Science Investigation – Materials And Their Properties

This term, we have been finding out about materials in Science with Mrs Witcomb! For one of our science investigations we tried to figure out what would inflate a balloon.
First, we got  the ingredients that we needed. Here’s a list of things that we needed: vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, a bottle and a balloon.
Then, we put the bicarbonate of soda in the balloon and vinegar in the bottle.  Next, we put the balloon on top of the bottle, then we shook the balloon to make sure the bicarbonate of soda was definitely in the bottle. Finally, as we expected, the balloon inflated and after a while the balloon deflated again.
This was an amazing experiment! We found out that a chemical reaction between the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar produced carbon dioxide which is what inflated the balloon!
